Shades of the 1960's, some high school students in Florida have started an underground paper to tweak the nose of their school system and some of their follies. In this day and age, though, it's a blog called The Rag, a throwback to the good old days of student unrest.
A QUICK ANNOUNCEMENT...
HEY SCHOOL OFFICIALS, THE RAG CAN'T BE BOUGHT, BLACKMAILED OR FOOLED, GOOD LUCK AND ENJOY STALKING STUDENTS AND SEARCHING YOUR COMPUTERS.
The publishers of The Rag have been threatened with disciplinary action and suspension, although I'm not sure on what grounds the school system has for making their case. Perhaps the ACLU would have something to say about it.

It takes me back to the time when I was in high school and a few friends tried to start an underground paper at my school in 1969. It was called The Clenched Foot and they ran it off on a mimeograph. It was supposed to take satirical swipes at our school and teachers, but much to our chagrin, the administrators loved it. It folded after two issues. Better luck to these guys.

Yeah I couldn't believe it either. But Gore was stickin' it to the man! And it's excellent.

In an address delivered in Washington to multiple standing ovations, Vice President Al Gore repeatedly attacked the Bush Administration for the expansion of executive power -- the ability of the government to wiretap its own citizens without legal authority and kidnap Americans abroad.

His speech -- which compares the wiretapping of Martin Luther King to the broad surveillance now imposed on Americans by President Bush -- called on Congress to resume its oversight responsibilities, and enjoined Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to appoint a special prosecutor. Gore was to be introduced by former Rep. Bob Barr, a Georgia Republican who has advocated for the constitutional right to privacy.

Florida Kid Shot by SWAT Team, and Died.

I have to say this is probably the saddest story I have heard yet.
In case you didn't know, a Florida eighth grader brought a pellet gun to school, that looked like a semi-automatic handgun. Well he reportedly pointed a gun at a deputy, and the chase began.
Officials stated that they tried to negoiate with him, but to no avail.
So they "took him out" and the story broke a few minutes ago that he had died.

But I'm Curious, how hard did they try to negotiate, I mean he's in Middle School, how hard is it to trick an eighth grader? Who all did they bring in to negoiate, a local police officer? Or did they bring a child psychologist? When an obviously troubled kid risks, not only his own life, but the lives of other students and teachers, It's a big deal. And I heard nothing about who tried to negotiate with him. And isn't it about 9 times out of 10, that students like this one, tell somebody that they are bringing a gun to school? And it's the SWAT team, trained professionals, isn't there some way to tell the difference between a semi-automatic handgun, and a pellet-gun look-a-like?

In a nutshell, the Chicago Sun-Times ran a story two days ago about a Web site that sells phone records, for cells and land-lines, for $110 a pop. The company boasts on its own Web site:

Give us the cell phone number and we will send you the calls made from the cell phone number.

So I went to their site, plopped down $110, and within a day I had a list of every single phone number that called my cell, or that I called from my cell, for the month of November. I even had the dates the calls were made, and for a premium I could find out how long the calls were.

Ughh, emailing the ACLU, my school board's trying to push the uniform issue, again.
It really pisses me off.
All we students ever hear is the administration saying, "they dress so scanty, look at the holes in the pants, cut your hair, flip-flops?"
If they had it their way, there would be no "disturbing" (a.k.a. non-conforming) articles of clothing, hair, etc.
We'd all be good little suburbian school children, with our stain-free dockers, white polos and snappy polished shoes.
Yeah right, they're sure as hell not going tell me to take off my hole-ridden jeans, flip-flops, John Lennon t-shirt, and they're definitely not going to cut my hair.
Ohh, I can smell my license! The places to drive and buy picket signs, posters, markers, and the people to pick up...
I don't know if the School Board wanted a full-out protest.

Well I was emailed about a post I made on School Vouchers.
To which my "e-mail-ee" wrote and filled 9/10 of the page with quotes.
(Hint: Dude, I can barely sit still long enough to watch t.v. What makes you think I can read 4 pages worth of quotes?)
Oh well, I'm going to get this out there in case anybody else was interested :

"...vouchers are less about 'school reform' or 'school choice' and to me, seem nothing but an attempt to get money away from public schools and into private schools. Instead of trying to fix the mess that is the Public School System."

Well, my old buddy Pat Robertson is at it again, now he's saying God hates Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. From today's 700 Club.

Florida Supreme Court: Vouchers? Hell No!

Well, I'm glad this happened, the Supreme Court released an opinion today on Jeb Bush’s Opportunity Scholarship Program and the decision immediately outlaws any further use of taxpayer funds for private or church based schools.

January 05,2006 | TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida Supreme Court struck down a voucher system that allowed some children to attend private schools at taxpayer expense, saying Thursday that it violates the state constitution’s requirement of a uniform system of free public schools.

The 5-2 opinion struck down the Opportunity Scholarship Program, championed by Gov. Jeb Bush, which was the nation’s first statewide system of school vouchers.

Under the 1999 law, students at public schools that earn a failing grade from the state in two out of four years were eligible for vouchers to attend private schools.

Judges had allowed the state to continue the program while the case was on appeal, and about 700 children are attending private or parochial schools through the program.

About 24,000 more attend such schools under more recently created programs, including one for children with disabilities. Thursday’s ruling did not directly affect those programs but could eventually be cited as a precedent.

Chief Justice Barbara Pariente, writing for the majority of the court, said the Opportunity Scholarship Program “diverts public dollars into separate private systems parallel to and in competition with the free public schools,” which are the sole means set out in the state constitution for educating Florida children.

NBC Deleting Transcripts?

Well this is getting interesting. NBC just delete two paragraphs from its Andrea Mitchell interview, the paragraphs that talked about whether Bush was wiretapping ace CNN correspondent Christiane Amanpour (kudos to Atrios for spotting this).

Here's what the NBC "official" transcript used to say (I copied this text from NBC's own page only 2 hours ago):
Mitchell: Do you have any information about reporters being swept up in this net?

Risen: No, I don't. It's not clear to me. That's one of the questions we'll have to look into the future. Were there abuses of this program or not? I don't know the answer to that

Mitchell: You don't have any information, for instance, that a very prominent journalist, Christiane Amanpour, might have been eavesdropped upon?

Risen: No, no I hadn't heard that.
Here's what it says now:

Risen: No, I don't. It's not clear to me. That's one of the questions we'll have to look into the future. Were there abuses of this program or not? I don't know the answer to that

Excuse me, I'm a little slow, but isn't there more than one holiday in December?
Yep, I'm almost positive that there is. So wouldn't it be just um, what's that word, ahh yes, POLITE to say "Happy Holidays?"
And what really gets me upset is when ol' Billy, in all his blotchy glory, tells me that non-Christians aren't and shouldn't be upset by "Merry Christmas" but saying "Happy Holidays" makes every Christian shit a golden brick! And not just the "red-blooded, football lovin', God-fearin" kind, EVERY CHRISTIAN.

The only reason I bring this up, is because while I was going around my school and other places gathering signatures for a Vegan Menu Option at my school, I said "Thank you very much, and Happy Holidays!" I had somebody look at me wierd and say, "You mean Merry Christmas?"
(Ooh, a possible last debate before Winter Vacation! I almost pissed my pants!)

"Well, if you would like me to say that, then 'Merry Christmas' other-wise I don't know who's Christian, Jewish, Wiccan, etc. by looks so I say, 'Happy Holidays.' "

Well, bet yall missed me huh?
Sorry I've been away for so long my report grades weren't as good as expected; the higher your grades are the first time, you are expected to achieve even higher the next time, then when you fall, well damn you fell a long way down!
Anyway, recently I've been semi-grounded, where it's more of a mutual understanding between parent and student, so I had to cut a few things out of my life, social-wise it's been hell, and blogger-wise, well its more of purgatory compared to social time, but it was still pretty hard.
So I'll blog from time to time, but if my grades slip again, well don't be surprised if I'm on hiatus for a while.
But big thanks to those who emailed me to see if I was still alive, I'll be alright.

Political activist C. DeLores Tucker, 78, who marched with the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., was the first black to serve as secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and in later years protested against obscenities in rap music, died Wednesday.

The West Mount Airy, Pa., resident spent her life fighting for civil rights; it was a struggle she carried out with poise and elegance. She was known for wearing turbans with matching ensembles, even when taking to the streets or being arrested.

Within hours of her death -- of undisclosed causes at Suburban Woods Health and Rehabilitation Center in Norristown, Pa. -- many of the area's politicians issued statements.

Tucker was such a vocal and visible opponent of the messages in rap music that rappers took to ridiculing her in their lyrics. She fired back with defamation lawsuits.

Such a great woman, she'll be missed. I don't think they mentioned it, but she was the President of the National Political Congress of Black Women.

Well I'm staying home from school today because, well, I didn't finish my work due today over the weekend so I'm finishing it now. The other reason why I'm staying home, is because in my confusion, last night (well this morning really) at around 1:00 am, I reached for a bottle of tea, (Lipton Green Tea w/ Citrus, Oh man, I'm in Love!) I accidently grabbed a bottle of Nail Polish Removal! Don't ask me how, or why, I just realized, "ugh, this is bad... hmm my throat's burning, that's not good, better go wash out my mouth, quickly, really quickly, oh Jesus!" I am telling you, it was horrible, this morning I called my mom, and the poison control center, they gave me some tips, and I'm doing fine, no worries ;)

Sheree Hied, a mother of five who believes that God created the earth and its creatures, was grateful when her school board here voted last year to require high school biology classes to hear about "alternatives" to evolution, including the theory known as intelligent design.

But 11 other parents in Dover [PA] were outraged enough to sue the school board and the district, contending that intelligent design - the idea that living organisms are so inexplicably complex, the best explanation is that a higher being designed them - is a Trojan horse for religion in the public schools.

With the new political empowerment of religious conservatives, challenges to evolution are popping up with greater frequency in schools, courts and legislatures. But the Dover case, which begins Monday in Federal District Court in Harrisburg, is the first direct challenge to a school district that has tried to mandate the teaching of intelligent design.

What happens here could influence communities across the country that are considering whether to teach intelligent design in the public schools, and the case, regardless of the verdict, could end up before the Supreme Court.

Advocates on both sides of the issue have lined up behind the case, often calling it Scopes II, in reference to the 1925 Scopes Monkey Trial that was the last century's great face-off over evolution.

On the evolutionists' side is a legal team put together by the American Civil Liberties Union and Americans United for Separation of Church and State. These groups want to put intelligent design itself on trial and discredit it so thoroughly that no other school board would dare authorize teaching it.

Witold J. Walczak, legal director of the A.C.L.U. of Pennsylvania, said the plaintiffs would call six experts in history, theology, philosophy of science and science to show that no matter the perspective, "intelligent design is not science because it does not meet the ground rules of science, is not based on natural explanations, is not testable."

On the intelligent design side is the Thomas More Law Center, a nonprofit Christian law firm that says its mission is "to be the sword and shield for people of faith" in cases on abortion, school prayer and the Ten Commandments. The center was founded by Thomas Monaghan, the Domino's Pizza founder, a conservative Roman Catholic who also founded Ave Maria University and the Ave Maria School of Law; and by Richard Thompson, a former Michigan prosecutor who tried Dr. Jack Kevorkian for performing assisted suicides.

"This is an attempt by the A.C.L.U. to really intimidate this small-town school board," said Mr. Thompson, who will defend the Dover board at the trial, "because the theory of intelligent design is starting to gain some resonance among school boards across the country."

Oh, man this is too much, well first of all I strongly disagree with hunting.

I don't approve of it, anyway, there's an article on NYTimes, about a young girl (7 or 8) being taken out of school to go on a "dream hunt" for black bears in Vermont.
So I click on the article, and what's first thing that pops out at me?
Two pictures, the first, a young girl holding a shoutgun, roughly half her size. I'm thinking, how side-splitting is this pic?
I'm staring at a poster girl for NRA.
The other picture, not so funny, more on the verge of sickly psychotic, the picture is of dogs, "smell-hounds" one of which looks as though it is being held back by its owner, so I'm thinking, great dogs trained to scent out an animal miding its own business and lead the animal to its exucutioning.
How sick are these people? It disgusts me.

Pledge = Unconstitutional

Some consider the battle of the "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance to be not worth it.
And on that I say I agree.
But I also agree that the Pledge contains a religious phrase, and it is idiotic to say that the words `under God' contain no religious significance.
I also disagree with forcing students to recite the Pledge. Now coming from a student who, (up until this year when my High School stopped the practice) said the pledge every school day, rain or shine for 180 days out of the year for 11 years, it was boring.
What I mean by that is, when you force students to say it every day it becomes a chore, I honestly (along with my other colleagues) felt little to no respect for it. It was no longer a proud moment to say, "I Love America" the teachers forced you to do it, and, believe me, if you had to say it everyday when you didn't even understand what it represents, you would feel the same way.
So, I'm almost neutral on this subject, I love this country, I'm proud to be American, but if students don't want to say the pledge, they don't have to, and be honest, would you want to be the sole child having to sit out because of religious beliefs, why not just make them wear neon signs?
And to quote Attorney Newdow, "Imagine every morning if the teachers had the children stand up, place their hands over their hearts, and say, 'We are one nation that denies God exists, I think that everybody would not be sitting here saying, 'Oh, what harm is that.' They'd be furious. And that's exactly what goes on against atheists. And it shouldn't.''

On this, the fourth anniversary of 9/11, I'm just curious, how does it feel?

How does it feel to know that the man you elected to lead us after we were attacked went ahead and put a guy in charge of FEMA whose main qualification was that he ran horse shows?

That's right. Horse shows.

I really want to know -- and I ask you this in all sincerity and with all due respect -- how do you feel about the utter contempt Mr. Bush has shown for your safety? C'mon, give me just a moment of honesty. Don't start ranting on about how this disaster in New Orleans was the fault of one of the poorest cities in America. Put aside your hatred of Democrats and liberals and anyone with the last name of Clinton. Just look me in the eye and tell me our President did the right thing after 9/11 by naming a horse show runner as the top man to protect us in case of an emergency or catastrophe.

I want you to put aside your self-affixed label of Republican/conservative/born-again/capitalist/ditto-head/right-winger and just talk to me as an American, on the common ground we both call America.

Are we safer now than before 9/11? When you learn that behind the horse show runner, the #2 and #3 men in charge of emergency preparedness have zero experience in emergency preparedness, do you think we are safer?

When you look at Michael Chertoff, the head of Homeland Security, a man with little experience in national security, do you feel secure?

When men who never served in the military and have never seen young men die in battle send our young people off to war, do you think they know how to conduct a war? Do they know what it means to have your legs blown off for a threat that was never there?

Do you really believe that turning over important government services to private corporations has resulted in better services for the people?

Why do you hate our federal government so much? You have voted for politicians for the past 25 years whose main goal has been to de-fund the federal government. Do you think that cutting federal programs like FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers has been good or bad for America? GOOD OR BAD?

With the nation's debt at an all-time high, do you think tax cuts for the rich are still a good idea? Will you give yours back so hundreds of thousands of homeless in New Orleans can have a home?

Do you believe in Jesus? Really? Didn't he say that we would be judged by how we treat the least among us? Hurricane Katrina came in and blew off the facade that we were a nation with liberty and justice for all. The wind howled and the water rose and what was revealed was that the poor in America shall be left to suffer and die while the President of the United States fiddles and tells them to eat cake.

That's not a joke. The day the hurricane hit and the levees broke, Mr. Bush, John McCain and their rich pals were stuffing themselves with cake. A full day after the levees broke (the same levees whose repair funding he had cut), Mr. Bush was playing a guitar some country singer gave him. All this while New Orleans sank under water.

It would take ANOTHER day before the President would do a flyover in his jumbo jet, peeking out the widow at the misery 2500 feet below him as he flew back to his second home in DC. It would then be TWO MORE DAYS before a trickle of federal aid and troops would arrive. This was no seven minutes in a sitting trance while children read "My Pet Goat" to him. This was FOUR DAYS of doing nothing other than saying "Brownie (FEMA director Michael Brown), you're doing a heck of a job!"

My Republican friends, does it bother you that we are the laughing stock of the world?

And on this sacred day of remembrance, do you think we honor or shame those who died on 9/11/01? If we learned nothing and find ourselves today every bit as vulnerable and unprepared as we were on that bright sunny morning, then did the 3,000 die in vain?

Our vulnerability is not just about dealing with terrorists or natural disasters. We are vulnerable and unsafe because we allow one in eight Americans to live in horrible poverty. We accept an education system where one in six children never graduate and most of those who do can't string a coherent sentence together. The middle class can't pay the mortgage or the hospital bills and 45 million have no health coverage whatsoever.

Are we safe? Do you really feel safe? You can only move so far out and build so many gated communities before the fruit of what you've sown will be crashing through your walls and demanding retribution. Do you really want to wait until that happens? Or is it your hope that if they are left alone long enough to soil themselves and shoot themselves and drown in the filth that fills the street that maybe the problem will somehow go away?

I know you know better. You gave the country and the world a man who wasn't up for the job and all he does is hire people who aren't up for the job. You did this to us, to the world, to the people of New Orleans. Please fix it. Bush is yours. And you know, for our peace and safety and security, this has to be fixed. What do you propose?

Well, just so everyone knows, I've been grounded for a month, but, finally, it's come to an end!
But there's other matters to talk about, I am freaking out because during my "groundation" 2 extremley important things have happened.
First, Rehnquist died after serving 33 years on the Supreme Court, ughhh, now we'll have the most conservative court ever!
The other, we all know, Katrina. I am wracked with emotions, I'm happy that Katrina missed us (FL Panhandle) but I feel slightly guilty in a way for feeling that, and I am so depressed for those people, I mean new-born babies w/o food, young girls being raped by gangs, it's horrible, a total anarchy, I know something needs to be done, but I just don't know what, other than let's all just donate to the Red Cross I'll set up a link for yall. I've donated the rest of my money after buying a mac mini (bought it pre-Katrina)

Well it's back to school time for me, and (gasp) I didn't finish my summer reading list for my English Honors class, actually I didn't even bother looking at the list (I know, I know)
And, this only gets better, my english techer appears, what's the correct terminology? Ah, yes, "anal"
So I have until the 15th to read Inherit the Wind, Tom Sawyer, and The Old man and the Sea.
So forgive me if I am -err unactive (as I have been recently) :(

Even More Proof Bush Knew Iraq was No Threat

Awww Geez...

In a lawsuit filed in federal court here in December, the former C.I.A. officer, whose name remains secret, said that the informant told him that Iraq's uranium enrichment program had ended years earlier and that centrifuge components from the scuttled program were available for examination and even purchase.

In his lawsuit, he says his dismissal was punishment for his reports questioning the agency's assumptions on a series of weapons-related matters. Among other things, he charged that he had been the target of retaliation for his refusal to go along with the agency's intelligence conclusions.

Perhaps, just perhaps, that's why Bush's poll ratings are at an all-time low. The American people have decided to OPEN their EYES, and actually SEE what the HELL IS GOING ON!

Oh, man I am kissing my keyboard right now, I have never been so happy to be home. Went to my sister's wedding in Michigan. Michigan, 2-day drive and they didn't even have any vegetarian meals at the reception, (wasn't worth it to me)

Like I said on the way to the reception, her next wedding's going to be in Florida. Didn't go over too well with everyone, wonder why, always thought myself to be a pleasure to be around, especially with only 2 hours sleep and drunk frat boys banging pots with metal spoons.

Oh well then too tired to comment on anything, going back to school on August 4th, uniform-free, at the moment.

Secretary Rice Urged To Condemn Iran Gay Executions

Ughh...

Thursday news emerged that the Iranian government had executed the two teens after a religious court found them them guilty of homosexuality. (story)

One of the teens was 18, the other, according to the Iranian Students News Agency, is believed to have been 16 or 17.

The English language Iran In Focus also reported the executions saying the teens were hanged in public in the city square in the northeastern city of Mashhad on July 19.

The State Department said that it had not seen the letter and would not comment on it until it had been studied.

Well, the House of Representatives reauthorized the Patriot Act yesterday with 257 for it and 171 against it. Out of those, 44 Dems supported it and 14 Republicans opposed it.

I watched it on C-SPAN yesterday, forcing myself to stifle my vomit just long enough to listen to Sensenbrenner (in his nausiating accent) tell me why the Patriot Act needed to be renewed.

In response, Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee have prepared a 70-page dissent opposing the reauthorization, so atleast someone's doing something.

In a devastating move, George W. Bush has nominated John Roberts to replace Justice O'Connor's swing vote on the U.S. Supreme Court. By nominating John Roberts, George Bush has issued a slap in the face to every American who values personal privacy and a woman's right to choose! With Bush in the White House and Congress in the grip of anti-choice leadership -- a woman's right to choose cannot afford to have John Roberts on the Supreme Court. The worst news, John Roberts has actually argued before the Supreme Court that Roe v. Wade should be overruled!

Tonight, Bush nominates Roberts who apparently has a disdain for federal laws, prefering state laws instead. But in a radio interview, AP reports that he singled out the Violence Against Women Act as one example of a place where the federal government need not be involved:
Roberts also has made the case that some problems simply should be left to the states. In a 1999 radio interview, he said, "We have gotten to the point these days where we think the only way we can show we're serious about a problem is if we pass a federal law, whether it is the Violence Against Women Act or anything else. The fact of the matter is conditions are different in different states, and state laws can be more relevant."
Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee held hearings on reauthorizing the "Violence Against Women Act" which expires on September 30, 2005:
Actress Salma Hayek and advocates from organizations fighting domestic violence testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday to push the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which expires every five years.

The act, a measure that improves responses to domestic and dating violence, as well as stalking and sexual assault, will end Sept. 30 unless it is reauthorized.

"This is not a Democratic or Republican bill," said Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., who authored the act when it first passed in 1994. "This is about men and women who have been abused."

According to the American Bar Association, 4 million women encounter domestic violence every year....Lynn Rosenthal, president of the National Network to End Domestic Violence, said the act not only needs to be reauthorized, but provisions must also be made to the bill to increase its success. The law under consideration in Congress would allow victims up to 10 days a year of unpaid leave to take steps to better their situations, such as seeking medical and legal help or moving.

Ninety-two percent of homeless women have been victims of abuse at some time in their lives, Rosenthal said.

She also suggested adding programs that would address the needs of vulnerable populations, such as American Indian women, who experience domestic abuse at twice the rate of other ethnicities.

A General of the Chinese army and dean at China's National Defense University commented to visiting Hong Kong reporters on Friday that China might use nuclear weapons against the U.S., in a conflict over the Taiwan Strait. "If the Americans draw their missiles and position-guided ammunition onto the target zone on China's territory, I think we will have to respond with nuclear weapons," Maj. Gen. Zhu Chenghu said to the reporters of the Asian Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times. "We Chinese will prepare ourselves for the destruction of all of the cities east of Xian [in central China]. Of course the Americans will have to be prepared that hundreds ... of cities will be destroyed by the Chinese."

US State Department spokesman Sean McCormack called the remarks "highly irresponsible" and "unfortunate", and expressed the hope that they did not reflect the views of the Chinese government.

Echoing the official Xinhua News Agency, China's Foreign Ministry officials said that Zhu was expressing personal views, and had warned the reporters accordingly, but stated that China would never tolerate "Taiwan independence". Reportedly, Maj. Gen. Zhu is not directly involved in the formulation of Chinese military strategy.

I've now become aquanted with unique individuals, who have recently showed me an article in the Times (reg. required) about a highschool blogger Zach and about him coming out to his parents. Now I'd expect some of the symptoms: arguing, gulit, feeling ashamed, just over-all disapproval. But, (get this, this is so rich) they actually sent him to a place called Refuge where they try to, "scare you straight."

Oh, Jesus.

Pat Robertson (old guy from 700 Club, yeah that one) said that Gays cause Hurricanes,

Robertson also said the widespread practice of homosexuality "will bring about terrorist bombs, it'll bring earthquakes, tornadoes and possibly a meteor.'' urricanes, and who they would hit, have been a theme of Robertson's career. This has to be the most insolent piece of trash ever to come from the White House.

Karl Rove, the White House Chief Political Adviser, said last night in Manhattan only a few miles from Ground Zero that liberals didn't get 9/11. We didn't see the attacks as "savage." We didn't want to defeat our enemies. We simply wanted to give Osama and the hijackers "therapy."

How dare he make such remarks? Unfortunatley I was only 11 at the time of 9-11 and I didn't fully understand what was going on. I do remember teachers crying and me and other students being checked-out from school and my parents telling me that "something really, really bad happened."

What I do know though, is that were not Democrats, Republicans, Independant, Conservative, etc. We were Americans, we were United and we were damn Proud of it!

Now for this White House Idiot to tell us, to tell Americans that Liberals didn't get 9-11, that we didn't care, that we wanted to give Osama a big hug and tuck him in?

I am too angry to write what I really feel right now, for I tend to regret what I say in anger.
But that doesn't mean YOU can't, Contact your Senators and Contact your Congressional Represenative, I know I have, don't let Karl Rove get away with this!

I've had some questions about what are my thoughts on the Downing Street Memo. Well, for the past few days I have been fighting a school district for the right to wear whatever I want, and watching C-SPAN everytime they talk about DSM. I think Congress should start an offical investigation and if, sorry when, they find out that what the Downing Street Memo says is true I want impeachment proceedings against Bush.
Now, WaPo's pissed in my Fruit-Loops before, but the article titled, "Democrats playing Dress-Up" that's when it went too far!

Basically they call Rep. Conyers attempts at trying to get media att. about DSM and holding a meeting about DSM mediocre. $#@! THEM!

So it's now official, verified by a county medical examiner. Contrary to the hysterics, the lies, and the criminal posturing of right-wing media terrorists like Sean Hannity and Joe Scarborough, Terri Schiavo was, indeed, in a persistent vegetative state. She had massive and irreversible brain damage and was blind, the medical examiner's office said Wednesday. It also found no evidence that she was strangled or otherwise abused. All of which exposes, once again, the hideous mindset of the Political and "Christian" Right in this country, the Republican Party. Their efforts at destroying the efficacy of medicine, doctors and common sense will now move to another city, another state, another sad family tragedy, where these cretins will take up temporary residence and parasitically feed off another human disaster. They are truly disgusting.

The story's in TIME, but I got it from CNN

Citing the logbook, which covers al-Qahtani's interrogations from November 2002 to January 2003, Time reports that daily interviews began at 4 a.m. and sometimes continued until midnight.
The interrogation techniques included refusing al-Qahtani a bathroom break and forcing him to urinate in his pants.

During the period covered by the logbook, Time reported, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld approved 16 additional interrogation techniques for use on certain detainees.

Afterward, interrogators began their sessions with al-Qahtani at midnight and awakened him with dripping water or Christina Aguilera music if he dozed off, the magazine article reported.
The magazine said the techniques approved by Rumsfeld included "standing for prolonged periods, isolation for as long as 30 days, removal of clothing, forced shaving of facial hair" and hanging "pictures of scantily clad women around his neck."

This is awful, anybody knows that listening to Christina Aguilera is dangerous for your health, PERIOD let alone without any sleep...
But seriously, TIME def. brought some more well-deserved attention on Gitmo. Oh, see what Dick (Mr. Go F**k Yourself in-the-flesh) said,

"The president says we review all of our options on a continuous basis," Cheney said. "The important thing here to understand is that the people that are at Guantanamo are bad people."

Hmm...yeah, I'm having a hard time seeing why anyone would want to be Republican. It's not enough to terrorize GLBT's and other minorities, now they're going after Sesame Street!

But the loss of $23.4 million in federal funds for children's educational shows — which PBS calls its "Ready to Learn" programs — could mean the elimination of these programs, said an official at Alexandria-based PBS who asked not to be named because the network still hopes to regain the funding. PBS's revenue totaled $333 million in fiscal year 2004.

The Ready to Learn group includes "Sesame Street," "Dragontales," "Clifford" and "Arthur," among others.

This is doing nothing but harming us, the public, and depriving us and our children of quality educational programming! They say believe in family values? Who is this going to hurt (other than the fine folks at PBS) US, THAT'S WHO! They must really be wanting that "all-american, baseball, apple pie" image. First they let Porn Stars go to offical White House Dinners, then they cut funding to quality public television, and now-a-days, where can parents turn to when they don't want to get into the "talk" with their kids other than PBS? Children, parents, and teachers deserve a network that provides safe, high-quality programming!
I'm outraged by two things here, and don't know which one I'm more upset about, the hypocrisy of the Republican party, or that they might get away with it.
And Yet I'm not suprised, I mean Republicans can't run their long term plans if there is a educated well informed public!

Oh, well I can't find it but, has anyone heard about the imprint of the Virgin Mary in a grilled-cheese sandwich? I remember being being in Catholic sunday school, (forgot the legit term) and the teacher showing pictures of clouds and mud that looked like Jesus, and being a curious 11-12 year old asked her, "...if God wants to make miracles, then why doesn't he do things?" Yeah you could hear a pen drop. Basically I was told to just blindly believe what was in front of me, and ask no questions, I'm sorry but that's not me. Later I was escorted out to my parents, where my Dad told me to straighten up, and I kindly told him in my 6th grade way, that I found the concept of God far-fetched and if God wanted to make an impact now maybe he should cure diseases, make peace, end crime, instead of making funny-looking clouds.

Now, please I don't mean to step on any religous toes here, if I have offended any of you in any way,

Iraq War the NEW Gay Marriage?

Here's one for all those right wing-nuts who think gay marriage will destroy the "real" marriages, and that embyonic stem-cell research is horrific for the fact that it kills one-cell organisms but think that a bloody conflict in Iraq (which whether you like it or not will continue to take innocent life) is okay, read this...woosah!
Tip of hat to Shake's Sis, "Can you produce one instance of a gay marriage actually undermining the sanctity of a heterosexual marriage, or causing the divorce of a straight couple? And if I could produce evidence that the Iraq War is detrimental to marriage, would you support a Constitutional amendment immediately requiring the withdrawal of our troops from Iraq and banning future preemptive wars the same way you support a Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage?"

The number of active-duty soldiers getting divorced has been rising sharply with deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq.

The trend is severest among officers. Last year, 3,325 Army officers' marriages ended in divorce — up 78% from 2003, the year of the Iraq invasion, and more than 3 1/2 times the number in 2000, before the Afghan operation, Army figures show. For enlisted personnel, the 7,152 divorces last year were 28% more than in 2003 and up 53% from 2000. During that time, the number of soldiers has changed little.

"Come On!" Moment #231

Well, for those of you who may not know, I am 15, so technically "no" I can't vote, (and I hate having to go through this with people) but should my voice be worth less than anyone else's?
So anyway, something happened today to back me up on this. I am currently vacationing at my Aunt's house while she is going through a pregnancy without her husband by her side (he's in the military) when I asked her today at the check-out of the local Wal-Mart Supercenter-Jesus they're everywhere!-, "...are you a Replubican, Democrat, or a Third-Party?" She looked at me and said, "I dunno...hand me the milk."
I was flabbergasted! I asked her, "surley you voted last election?" She laughed, "well do you have your voter's registration card?" She did, and I saw her political party...Republican! But anyway, point is, why are those of us who are of younger age who pay attention to politics (I watch C-SPAN religously) thrown aside and that "told to leave that "fancy-political stuff" to the good ol' boys?
This is ridiculous, I mean I'd expect this from Replublicans, but I've had liberal-comin-out-their-ears people tell me, maybe you should leave this political bickering to us adults and go out and have fun! Isn't that a little conservative? Isn't that what women had to go through not even a century ago? And also, do they assume I don't have fun bickering about politics? If I hated this, then I wouldn't be doing this would I?
I mean my mom never even heard of the electoral college until I informed her while she was stumped watching CNN with me.
